vocal workshop audition request
Fall 2024
Thank you for your interest in the Vocal Workshops!
Vocal Workshops are lead by acclaimed singer Tonya Boyd-Cannon as part of a partnership between the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORD) to offer music education programs around the city. These workshops meet weekly from August to April and are open by audition to students ages 8 to 18.
The classes utilize a curriculum that Boyd-Cannon has developed called ARTcademics. Students receive instruction in: posture; breath control and breathing techniques; self-awareness and vocal register variations; ear-training; scales; and vocal repertoire.
We are now accepting applications for the Vocal Workshop program. Students will be able to attend on either Mondays at St. Bernard Recreation Center or Thursdays at Morris FX Jeff Sr. Park (formerly Behrman Park)
Class times are 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Students may select their preferred class day below.
We will contact you via e-mail at least 24 hours prior to the start of a workshop if your student has been admitted to the program.
