The Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival is a vibrant celebration held annually in New Orleans, showcasing the culinary and cultural heritage of the Tremé neighborhood. Renowned for its diverse gumbo offerings, the festival presents a feast for the senses, with local chefs dishing out their unique interpretations of this beloved culinary staple. Alongside the food, festival-goers can enjoy live music performances reflecting Treme’s deep-rooted musical legacy, from jazz and blues to brass bands. The festival also features local artisans, crafts, and activities for the little fest-goers. It’s a lively atmosphere that honors the community’s history and spirit. It’s a must-attend event for anyone looking to experience the authentic flavors and rhythms of New Orleans.

Free Admission – Donations Accepted 

Admission to the Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival is free, but we will have donation boxes set up at most of the park entrances. If you want to help us keep our events free, please support us with the donation of your choice.

Arts Market 

We will host a huge arts market, highlighting the best local and regional makers of hand-crafted artworks and home furnishings. As at all of our events, we’ll feature some of the best artisans in the region selling hand-made art, jewelry and other crafts.  

Food Vendors 

If you love dark roux chicken and sausage gumbo, Creole filé gumbo, seafood gumbo, and all sorts of other great stuff – from po-boys to shrimp ’n’ grits – then come hungry.  

Cooking Demonstration Tent

Hosted by Arkesha Baquet of Lil Dizzy’s Café

Step inside the Cooking Demo Tent and experience the heart and soul of Louisiana cuisine! Throughout the weekend, local chefs, culture bearers, and culinary artists will share their secrets to making authentic New Orleans gumbo. From perfecting a dark roux to layering flavors with local seafood, sausage, and fresh herbs, you’ll get insider tips straight from the experts.

Watch live demonstrations, sample delicious tastings, and learn the stories behind the recipes that have been passed down through generations. It’s a flavorful celebration of culture, community, and the artistry of Creole cooking. 

Come hungry, take notes, and get inspired to bring a little bit of Tremé’s kitchen home with you!

Kids Tent

Bring the little ones to the Kids Craft Tent for a weekend full of creativity, rhythm, and fun! Each day features hands-on art and music activities inspired by the flavors and spirit of Tremé. Kids can craft their own Gumbo Pot Necklaces, African-inspired Masai jewelry, funky maracas, and even build drums and alligator puppets from recycled materials.

All weekend long, families are invited to add their touch to our Community Gumbo Pot Art Project — a collaborative masterpiece celebrating the beauty of our diverse community, where every ingredient adds something special to the mix.

Open to children of all ages, the Kids Tent is the perfect place to let imagination simmer and creativity cook!

Playbuild

Our friends at Playbuild will return to Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival. Playbuild is a creative play organization that inspires kids to explore, design, and build using their signature big blue blocks. These oversized foam shapes encourage imaginative play, teamwork, and problem-solving, transforming any space into an interactive playground where children can construct, invent, and have fun together.

ADA Accessibility

For guests who use need ADA accommodations, the festival will have a number of options:

There will be wheelchair drop-off areas on Rampart Street (at the St. Ann Street Gate) and also in the parking lot near the Mahalia Jackson Theatre of the Performing Arts (enter via the Basin Street Gate).

Wheelchair-accessible toilets will be kept locked for your comfort. To obtain the combination for the locks, please visit any of our information booths located at the park entrances or check with the staff at the official Merchandise Booth.

All of the food booths will have counter heights of no more than 32 inches. There will be an area reserved only for wheelchairs near the sound booth in front of the stage.

No Outside Food or Beverages or Pets

Like all of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Community Festivals, the Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival is completely free and open to the public – part of the community investment made by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation. Donations, however, are gratefully accepted. If you would like to support the Foundation and help keep this event free, please make the tax-deductible contribution of your choice here.

PLEASE: Except for those with small children or dietary restrictions, please do not bring outside food or beverages to the event – no coolers are permitted.

Although Armstrong Park is usually open to pets, for the safety and comfort of the festival’s large audience, the Jazz & Heritage Foundation asks that guests respect their neighbors and leave companion animals at home (except for service animals, of course).
