Friday, March 7: Lena Prima
Lena Prima, the youngest daughter of music legend Louis Prima, is a seasoned singer-songwriter with a deep connection to the music of New Orleans. Born in Las Vegas, she spent much of her childhood in New Orleans, where she now resides and regularly performs. With 8 albums to her name, including a number one iTunes single, and accolades like a top 10 Billboard Jazz Album, Lena has established herself as a talented artist in her own right. Her journey began with her father’s music, which she played constantly as a young girl, and her experiences performing with his band from a tender age. After a few years of exploring the rock scene and working day jobs, Lena turned to music as her primary career in the early 2000s, eventually returning to New Orleans and becoming a staple of the city’s jazz scene
Saturday, March 8: Cristina Kaminis
Cristina Kaminis, a Mexican-American singer based in New Orleans by way of NYC, embodies a vibrant and eclectic musical style. She seamlessly blends genres and languages, incorporating the emotional intensity of Mexican ranchera, the soulfulness of Blues, the sophistication of American Jazz Standards, the romanticism of French chansons, and the rhythmic flair of Brazilian music. With a band comprised of Brazilian musicians, Cristina’s sound is a rich tapestry of cultural influences. Embracing her versatility, she seeks to defy categorization and instead, experiments with diverse styles to create a unique sound that is authentically hers. Like a painter with a box of watercolors, Cristina uses her voice to explore and combine different colors and textures, allowing her music to evolve and flourish in a joyful celebration of creativity and self-expression.
Friday, March 14: Teena May; Dusky Waters
Opener Teena May’s musical path began at age four with a toy piano and classical piano lessons, later leading her to teach herself guitar and songwriting in college. Despite exploring other career paths, she rekindled her passion for songwriting in Brooklyn, NY, in 2012. After years of self-doubt, a pivotal open mic night in New Orleans in 2022 solidified her belief that sharing her music was her calling. Teena performs her extensive 200+ song catalogue across the United States and Paris, France, in solo performances, as a duo with a fiddle player, or with a full band (fiddle, upright bass, and drums).
Dusky Waters is an Americana songwriter inspired by the Mississippi River and her experiences in the South. Her music blends gospel, folk, and soul with contemporary pop, reflecting her journey through Arkansas, Louisiana, and New Orleans. Dusky Waters’ upbeat sound features soulful lyrics, powerful harmonies, and a unique blend of Americana, incorporating instruments like banjo, guitar, accordion, and viola. Their music has been praised for its songwriting and vocals, leading to a successful debut at the 2024 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Dusky Waters performs with a band and is also the co-founder of Black Americana Fest..
Saturday, March 15: Stephanie Jordan
Stephanie Jordan is an internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist praised for her emotional depth, clarity, and distinctive style, drawing comparisons to Diana Krall and Dianne Reeves. Her performance at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Hurricane Katrina benefit concert brought her national recognition. She has since performed at numerous prestigious venues and festivals, including the inaugural International Jazz Day, and has been featured on NPR. Jordan has also been celebrated by the Sud Ouest French publication, labeled “JAZZHOT” by The Washingtonian, and dubbed “Lady Jazz!” by Audix Microphones. A fifth-generation musician from New Orleans, she is the daughter of the late saxophonist Edward “Kidd” Jordan and a graduate of Howard University. In addition to her music, she works as a certified fitness instructor, creator of Jazz Pilates, and a choir director/vocal instructor.
