The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation's Treme Creole Gumbo Festival was named Best Neighborhood Festival in the 2013 Best of the Beat Awards, presented by OffBeat magazine on Jan. 15.
The sixth annual festival, which took place in November in Armstrong Park, featured brass bands, traditional New Orleans jazz, R&B and the first-ever Vegan Gumbo Contest.
The 2013 Treme Gumbo Fest also utilized a new surround-sound system designed to prevent unwanted sound from traveling into adjacent neighborhoods.
The seventh annual Treme Gumbo Fest will take place Nov. 8-9, 2014, in Armstrong Park.
