Jazz & Heritage Radio: WWOZ 90.7 FM
WWOZ is the front porch where our community gathers. It’s the beacon that transmits our song to the world: “Laissez les bons temps rouler!”
Now more than ever, WWOZ’s signal is our spirit. The station’s beloved disc jockeys mix a potent cocktail of Louisiana sounds – from the oldest to the latest.
They fill the airwaves of the Crescent City and reach a global audience via http://www.wwoz.org. Given the expanse of its programming, it is no surprise that WWOZ recently won Esquire magazine’s “Esky” award as the nation’s top Internet radio option.
More than just a radio station, WWOZ reaches into the many facets of our community and holds them together. Its daily programming stimulates our senses and lightens our hearts. Its community notebooks and event calendars keep us informed of the multiple cultural offerings taking place at any given moment.
OZ’s open door policy allows local musicians to stop by with newly released CDs, allowing grateful programmers and fans to experience fresh music the moment it’s ready.
With well–produced documentaries and news features, WWOZ keeps us informed with insightful reports on the progress of our recovery.
For many years, WWOZ has broadcast live from Jazz Fest and many other music events in the Crescent City – helping those who are either stuck at work or stuck in traffic enjoy the sounds of our culture in real time.
Increasingly, WWOZ’s mobile broadcast unit travels to music festivals across the nation and in other countries, beaming back sounds that might not otherwise find a local outlet.
In a new partnership with the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corp., WWOZ will produce a weekly, hour–long sampler of New Orleans music that will air on radio stations around the country. Now, whether on the Internet or terrestrial radio, fans everywhere will have more ways to experience our magic.
Community radio in the truest sense, WWOZ is the heartbeat of New Orleans.
