Fall 2019 Concert Series: Jazz Now

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation presents Jazz Now, a seven-concert series showcasing innovative New Orleans jazz. Join the Foundation at concerts scheduled for December 5 - 14 to hear the new and the modern. All concerts will be held at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center, 1225 N. Rampart St., New Orleans. Concerts scheduled for December 5, 6, 11, 12, and 14 will have one set, starting at 8:00 p.m. Concerts on December 7 and 13 will have sets at 8:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. A complete schedule is available online. Jazz Now concerts are free and open to the public.

Jazz Now kicks off on December 5th with a concert by the Stephen Gordon Quintet. A drummer and keyboardist, Gordon pushes against the boundaries of genre through distinctive musical fusions. On Friday, bassist and composer Amina Scott takes the stage. The weekend will conclude with two sets by the Organic Trio, a transcontinental collaboration that "explores the ethereal, the poignant and the bombastic."

The second week of Jazz Now features performances on December 11th, December 12th, December 13th, and December 14th. The week kicks off on Wednesday: drummer Ricky Sebastian will present what's sure to be an unforgettable tribute to pop-fusion maverick Jaco Pastorius. The second week continues with Byron Asher's Skrontch Music, a multimedia jazz journey showcasing local talent and historic New Orleans repertoire. On Friday, December 13th, Lawrence Sieberth will perform two sets of distinct music. Jazz Now concludes on Saturday, December 14th with a special holiday performance by Clarence Johnson III and his band.
